Differences between MUCH, MANY, and A LOT.

Here are some general rules:

Many‘ is used with countable plural nouns like boxes, wolves, or strawberries.

  1. There are so many boxes here.
  2. There are many wolves and other wildlife in this area.
  3. There are so many strawberries to pick today.

Much‘ can only be used with uncountable nouns like water, sugar, or luck.

  1. How much water can you drink?
  2. How much sugar is in the recipe?
  3. I haven’t had much luck.

A lot‘ can be used with both, countable and uncountable nouns.

  1. There are a lot of boxes in the back.
  2. There are a lot of wolves and other wildlife in this area.
  3. There are a lot of strawberries to pick today.
  4. You should drink a lot of water.
  5. There’s a lot of sugar in this recipe.
  6. I wish you lots of luck in your new job.
